Chunghwa Picture Tubes reports revenue declines, eyes AI PC opportunities

Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), a key player in electronic components, has reported a downturn in its financial performance, with revenues declining in June, the second quarter, and the first half of the year. In June, the company's revenue stood at 7.889 billion New Taiwan dollars, a 5.5% decrease year-on-year. The second quarter saw revenues of 22.388 billion NTD, down 8.6% compared to the same period last year. For the first half of the year, revenue reached 45.259 billion NTD, a 5.27% drop. Despite the overall decline in the personal computer market, CPT views the emergence of AI PCs as a significant opportunity. The company believes that AI PCs, powered by platforms like NVIDIA's RTX Spark, have the potential to become powerful daily AI agents. CPT, a leading global supplier of laptop keyboards, imaging modules, and power supplies, is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend. The company anticipates that its high-wattage power supplies, LED backlit keyboards, and high-end lens modules will be in demand as AI PC penetration increases. CPT is also strategically expanding into the burgeoning field of edge AI vision. Its focus areas include smart security, smart video, fleet management, and smart wearables. The company emphasizes its ability to integrate AI computing and sensor fusion technologies into its imaging products, enabling devices to perform deep learning and environmental analysis. CPT believes these edge AI vision products will be crucial for the commercial implementation of "Physical AI" and are expected to drive strong future growth.
