Chunghwa Telecom's Chien Chih-cheng: Digging Up More Internal 'Golden Chicks' to Push Market Value Upward

Chunghwa Telecom is embarking on an ambitious strategy to unlock greater market value by nurturing its internal ventures into successful subsidiaries. Chairman Chien Chih-cheng articulated this vision at the "CHT Tech Day 2026 R&D Achievements Exhibition," emphasizing the goal of transforming the company's research and development prowess into commercially viable enterprises.

The company's commitment to this strategy is evident in its recent restructuring. The AI-related departments have been consolidated into a new entity, Chunghwa Innovation Intelligence, and plans are underway to establish a dedicated subsidiary for its image recognition (IVS) division by the middle of this year. This approach mirrors past successes, where Chunghwa Telecom has effectively cultivated subsidiaries like Chunghwa Precision Test Technology, Sifang Communication, and others, many of which have successfully listed on the stock exchange.

Chairman Chien highlighted the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute as a vital hub of innovation, boasting approximately 1,500 R&D personnel and a deep wellspring of technological expertise. The showcased technologies span diverse fields, including satellite network management, intelligent transportation, remote healthcare, AI intelligent agents, information security, and mobile digital access. By fostering these internal "golden chicks," Chunghwa Telecom aims not only to expand its technological portfolio but also to significantly boost its overall market capitalization, reinforcing its position as a leader in Taiwan's technology sector.
