Church leaders must stay non-partisan, avoid political endorsements, Cleric

Religious leaders must uphold their spiritual mandate and steer clear of partisan politics, according to Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries Worldwide. Speaking at the eighth edition of the Night of Divine Experience in Ogun State, Yomi-Sholoye cautioned against transforming the pulpit into a platform for political endorsements or propaganda.

"The pulpit is a holy place established to proclaim biblical truths, advocate for justice, and offer spiritual guidance to all people, regardless of their political affiliations," she stated. "It must never be reduced to a platform for political endorsements, partisan campaigns, or party propaganda."

Yomi-Sholoye stressed that religious leaders have a duty to maintain fairness and impartiality, especially during election periods when political interests often try to influence faith communities. She believes the church's core mission is to proclaim biblical truths, promote justice, and guide all individuals, irrespective of their political leanings.

Furthermore, the cleric advised citizens against engaging in vote-buying and other forms of voter inducement. She urged voters to base their electoral decisions on the competence and proven leadership records of candidates, rather than on financial incentives. "Before casting your ballot, thoroughly examine every candidate’s past administrative performance, public leadership history, and proposed plans for Osun State," she advised.

Yomi-Sholoye called on eligible voters in Osun State to critically assess candidates in the upcoming governorship election. She noted that many candidates have prior public office experience and should be evaluated based on their administrative performance and vision for the state. The goal, she said, is to elect leaders with the capacity to govern effectively and bring about meaningful development.
