Çiğli’s Neighborhood Theater Days Reach Hundreds of Children

An interactive children’s play about earthquakes reached 1,350 children across four neighborhoods in Çiğli, bringing both theater and safety education into local communities.

Written and directed by Üzeyir Tavuş, “We Are Not Afraid of Earthquakes” was staged in Evka 2, Evka 5, Cumhuriyet and Yenimahalle over four days. Its colorful characters and participation-based format drew strong interest from young audiences.

We place great importance on our children growing up surrounded by culture and the arts and having easy and equal access to artistic activities.

The production explained precautions to take before an earthquake and appropriate behavior during one in an age-appropriate, educational style. It formed the final event in Çiğli Municipality’s summer Neighborhood Theater Days, which aimed to give children access to cultural and artistic activities in their own neighborhoods.

Çiğli Mayor Onur Emrah Yıldız said the municipality wanted children to grow up close to culture and the arts while gaining awareness of situations they might face in daily life. He said the municipality was pleased to see children both enjoying the performances and learning from them.
