Rare Veiled Owl Rescued at Turkish High School Garden

School personnel performing irrigation work in the garden of Şarkışla Anadolu İmam Hatip High School in Sivas, Turkey, discovered a motionless bird on the ground. Upon closer inspection, they identified the weakened bird as a veiled owl, a rare species.

School administrators suspected the owl might be hungry or injured. They provided initial aid by offering it meat. Following this, they contacted the Şarkışla teams of the Nature Conservation and National Parks.

Wildlife officials arrived at the school and took possession of the veiled owl. They will proceed with the necessary treatment and care processes to help the bird recover. The owl was delivered to the authorities for rehabilitation.

Yasin Albayrak, the Assistant Principal of Şarkışla Anadolu İmam Hatip High School, shared details about the discovery. He stated that they found the bird during a garden check and researched its species, learning it was a veiled owl. "We thought it might be injured or hungry. We gave it meat accordingly. Hopefully, Nature Conservation will start the necessary work and help it regain its health," Albayrak said.
