Cisadane River flow falls in Tangerang as authorities warn of drought

The flow of the Cisadane River in Tangerang, Banten, has fallen during a prolonged dry season, prompting the city’s disaster management agency to step up preparations for possible drought.

The agency is monitoring raw water supplies across the city and has strengthened coordination with other authorities. Measures include checking water sources, preparing clean-water distribution and taking stock of available water tankers.

“ The dry season is not only about hot weather, but also about our shared preparedness. We continue to strengthen coordination and ensure that various preventive measures can be taken early,” said Mahdiar, head of the Tangerang city disaster agency, on Saturday.

The Cisadane is an important water source for residents in Tangerang and surrounding areas. Officials said preparations were needed to limit the effects of drought while the city remained under an emergency alert for hydrometeorological drought disasters.

Water levels at Gate 10, or the Pasar Baru Weir, stood at 11.55 meters, below the normal level of 12.40 meters. The decline followed the dry season and limited water supply from upstream areas in Bogor, leading authorities to close all gates at the Pasar Baru Dam.

Mahdiar urged residents to use water carefully and watch for fires as drier conditions increase the risk. “Let us work together to use water wisely, increase awareness of potential fires, and report immediately if an emergency occurs in the surrounding area,” he said.
