Citing Unacceptable Terms, Bauchi PDP Halts Defection Talks With APC

In a significant political development in Bauchi State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially withdrawn from proposed defection talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision, announced by the state PDP Chairman, Sama’ila Burga, stems from a fundamental disagreement over critical terms and conditions that the APC leadership allegedly refused to accept.

The PDP entered the negotiations with what it described as sincere intentions to foster mutual understanding and explore political collaboration for the state's progress. However, the talks ultimately failed to yield a common ground, with Burga emphasizing that a lack of alignment on several fundamental issues made it appropriate to discontinue the process. This outcome follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders within the PDP, including members of the National and State Houses of Assembly, and local government party leaders.
