City Forums: When and where Asunción’s mayoral candidates will debate

Asunción’s mayoral race is entering its decisive phase, and the four candidates will meet on Sept. 9 for the second session of the “City Forums: Seven Commitments for Asunción” series.

The event, organized by the Asunción Development Council, or Codeasu, will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the auditorium of the Cultural Center of the Port of Asunción. Soledad Núñez of Juntos por Asunción, Camilo Pérez of the Cartista National Republican Association, Rodrigo Franco of the Christian Democratic Party and Arlene Aquino of the Patria Soñada Party will present their plans for the capital.

Each candidate will receive 15 minutes for an individual presentation focused on urban and administrative initiatives. They will then answer three common questions prepared by the forum organizers. The candidates’ technical teams will receive those questions three days before the event.

The forum will be streamed live so residents can follow the discussion in real time. People who want to assess the proposals will also be able to send questions through a digital platform that the organizers will open. Moderators will sort the submissions and select questions for the final segment.

The debate will cover seven areas of urban management, including public finances, administrative reform, the municipal budget, urban mobility, public transport, traffic congestion, neighborhood development, service decentralization, community safety and infrastructure. Infrastructure discussions will include maintaining public spaces and recovering the city’s paved road network.
