Clancy Trial: Jury Views Home Where 3 Children Were Killed; Doctors Testify

Jurors in the high-profile murder trial of Lindsay Clancy on Friday visited the Duxbury, Massachusetts, home where she is accused of killing her three young children. The visit to the scene marked the start of the fourth day of the trial, which has centered on the defense's argument that Clancy was suffering from extreme postpartum psychosis when the tragic events unfolded.

Clancy faces first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her 5-year-old daughter Cora, 3-year-old son Dawson, and 8-month-old son Callan. Prosecutors contend the murders were calculated acts. The defense, however, argues that Clancy was overmedicated and experiencing severe mental distress. Investigators allege that on January 24, 2023, Clancy strangled her children with exercise bands in the basement before jumping from a second-story window after cutting herself.

During the trial, jurors were permitted to inspect the exterior of the property, as well as the basement and all rooms on the first and second floors. The judge instructed that they could not open closet doors or touch any items. Legal analyst Jennifer Roman noted the visit aimed to provide jurors with a visual understanding of the layout and Clancy's actions after the killings, including the window she jumped from and her landing spot.

She was pretty quiet. It sounded like she was busy. I remember hanging up thinking she was probably in the middle of giving baths or something like that.

Before reaching the house, the jury was driven past the ThreeV restaurant in Plymouth, where Clancy's ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, picked up takeout food, and the Kingston CVS, where he collected medicine for the children. Patrick Clancy had testified earlier that Lindsay sounded "busy" when he spoke with her on the phone from the store, recalling he thought she might have been bathing the children.

It's all about fleshing this out for the jurors so they can really understand and appreciate what this crime scene was and how long it would've taken Patrick Clancy to go from Point A to Point B on that particular day.

Returning to Plymouth Superior Court, jurors heard testimony from first responders who encountered Clancy at the hospital. Duxbury police Sgt. Marcanthony Maffeo described Clancy as appearing "sedated and unconscious with several lacerations to her arms and neck" after her fall, which resulted in paralysis.
