Clash at MQM-P Meeting Leaves One Injured, Press Conference Postponed

A meeting at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) headquarters in Bahadurabad, Karachi, devolved into chaos and a scuffle on Sunday evening, leaving at least one person injured. The incident involved supporters from two reportedly rival groups within the party, allegedly led by federal ministers Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal.

Details surrounding the exact cause of the conflict remain unconfirmed. However, a police officer speaking anonymously to Dawn confirmed that one individual sustained a firearm injury. Police were present at the scene to manage the situation, which was reported to be under control.

Another party official indicated that authorities were investigating the trigger for the infighting, but stated no one was seriously injured. Police contingents were dispatched to prevent further escalation.

Following the disturbance, a scheduled press conference by the party leadership was postponed. Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed commented on the incident via X, stating, "They set out to divide Sindh, but failed to keep their own house in order." She added that those who sought to divide others had themselves splintered, and that the people had responded to politics of hatred against Sindh's unity.
