Clear skies and early summer heat for Buddha's Birthday in South Korea

South Korea is set to enjoy clear skies and early summer warmth on May 24, the day of Buddha's Birthday. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach as high as 29 degrees Celsius in some areas, offering pleasant weather for the holiday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts mostly clear skies nationwide after morning clouds, though Jeju Island will remain cloudy. However, this warm spell is temporary, with rain predicted for the southern regions and Jeju Island on May 25, and across the entire country on May 26.

Despite the generally pleasant temperatures, which will be similar to or slightly higher than the seasonal average, a significant diurnal temperature range is anticipated. Inland areas could see temperature differences of around 15 degrees Celsius between the day's high and the night's low. Health officials advise the public to be mindful of these fluctuations to maintain well-being.

Morning fog is also a concern for some regions. The inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province may experience dense fog with visibility below 200 meters until the morning. Other areas might see fog patches reducing visibility to less than 1 kilometer, particularly near coastal bridges and along rivers and lakes in inland valleys. Drivers are urged to exercise caution.

Fine dust levels are expected to remain at 'good' to 'normal' levels across all regions, posing no significant concern for air quality.
