Cleitinho's Brother Organizes 40km March to Pressure Party on Candidacy

Supporters of Senator Cleitinho are mobilizing with a 40-kilometer march to pressure the national leadership of the Republicanos party to approve his candidacy for governor of Minas Gerais. The event, dubbed the "Walk of Faith and Spirituality," was called by Gleidson Azevedo, Cleitinho's brother and former mayor of Divinópolis.

Azevedo, who recently announced his own candidacy for federal deputy, stated in an Instagram video that the march aims to "give strength" to his brother. The planned route spans from Itaúna to the Praça do Santuário in Divinópolis, a significant distance intended to highlight the urgency of the situation.

This demonstration marks the latest development in the ongoing impasse surrounding Cleitinho's political aspirations. Despite leading in voter intention polls for the governorship, Cleitinho announced his withdrawal on Monday, August 3rd. He is now attempting to overturn that decision and secure the top spot on the Republicanos ticket.

The party, however, has expressed its intention to field its own candidate and is considering Luis Eduardo Falcão, a former mayor of Patos de Minas who joined the party in February to run for vice-governor. Adding to the complexity, the PL party, which had pledged support for Cleitinho, has nominated Flávio Roscoe, former president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (Fiemg), as its candidate. Roscoe has indicated he is awaiting the party's final decisions and has not opposed Cleitinho's potential candidacy, even expressing hope for Cleitinho's presence on the PL's campaign platform.
