Coffee farmers use an app to spot crop diseases in the field

Nearly 100 coffee-growing households in Cư M'gar, Đắk Lắk, were shown how to use a smartphone app to identify pests, monitor plant nutrition and collect data for more effective and sustainable farming.

The training took place at BM Farm, a large coffee plantation operated by BM Group, during a workshop titled “Increasing Robusta’s value through farming data.” Farmers practiced using App2Nông, a digital platform introduced by PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Corporation, or PVCFC.

The app offers tools for diagnosing diseases, recognizing nutrient deficiencies, checking weather updates, receiving technical recommendations and managing production activities. It also allows growers to track farm inputs and digitize cultivation records.

PVCFC says App2Nông was developed with artificial intelligence for the smart-farming era. Farmers can scan or photograph a plant to check for problems. The system covers 61 pest and nutrient conditions affecting six crops: coffee, pepper, durian, passion fruit, rice and orange trees. The company says its AI diagnosis has achieved accuracy of more than 95%.
