Colapinto's resurgence: The new Gasly, reasons for a growing smile

Franco Colapinto is experiencing a remarkable turnaround with the Alpine Formula 1 team, now consistently outperforming teammate Pierre Gasly. This shift is attributed to crucial upgrades, including a new chassis with softer suspensions and identical aerodynamic components to Gasly's car, effectively reversing their previous performance dynamics.

Colapinto's resurgence was evident at the Canadian Grand Prix, where he secured a ninth-place starting position, while Gasly qualified 14th. This marks a significant improvement for the Argentine driver, who had previously struggled with the car's setup. His performance in Montreal follows a strong showing in Miami, where he also demonstrated superior pace compared to his French teammate.

Despite missing a full practice session on Friday, Colapinto showcased impressive resilience and pace throughout the weekend. He advanced from 13th to ninth in the sprint race, skillfully overtaking competitors. His qualifying performance, reaching Q3 for the third time in his Formula 1 career, further solidified his newfound form, leaving Gasly struggling to adapt to the car.

Colapinto expressed his satisfaction with the qualifying results, acknowledging the team's progress. "This weekend we weren't as fast as in Miami, and that's why I think it's even more meritorious to have entered Q3 and had such a solid qualifying from the first lap to the last," he stated. He noted that while they are still a few tenths off top teams, he feels competitive for the race, especially after gaining more confidence and familiarity with the car following the practice session setback.
