Collective finds barrels with burnt remains, clandestine grave in Reynosa

In Reynosa, Tamaulipas, the "Amor por los Desaparecidos" (Love for the Disappeared) collective has made a grim discovery during their 97th search operation: barrels containing calcined human remains and a clandestine grave.

Edith González, the president of the collective, reported that the site, located on the El Becerro dirt road in Ejido Tlaxcala, is their 31st significant finding since they began their work. The collective is uncertain whether the remains consist of complete bodies or just fragments that survived the intense heat of cremation.

Authorities from the Tamaulipas General Prosecutor's Office have cordoned off the area. They are now tasked with collecting the scattered bones from the grave and the barrels, some of which had bullet holes. Investigators also recovered clothing and shoes from the scene, which will be crucial for forensic studies aimed at identifying the victims and determining if multiple individuals are involved.

The discovery highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities and civil society groups in addressing the pervasive issue of forced disappearances and clandestine burials in the region. The collective's persistent efforts continue to bring attention to these hidden crimes and provide some measure of closure for grieving families.
