Colombia debuts with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan

Colombia made a strong debut in the 2026 World Cup, securing a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in Mexico City to claim the top spot in Group K. Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring for Colombia in the 41st minute, assisted by Luis Díaz, with a precise shot just before the penalty area.

Despite Colombia's dominance for much of the match, Uzbekistan managed to equalize in the 60th minute. Eldor Shomurudov's shot was fumbled by Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, leaving the ball free for Abbosbek Fayzullaev to head in the equalizer.

Colombia quickly regained the lead five minutes later. A combination play between Gustavo Puerta and Luis Díaz resulted in Díaz scoring with a right-footed shot, despite a slow reaction from Uzbek goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov. The match concluded in dramatic fashion when, in the 9th minute of stoppage time, Jáminton Campaz converted a pass from 'Cucho' Juan Camilo Hernández, sealing the 3-1 victory.

With this win, Colombia leads Group K with three points. They are followed by Portugal and Congo, both with one point, while Uzbekistan is at the bottom with zero points. Colombia is set to face Congo on June 23, while Uzbekistan will play Portugal.
