Colombian business leaders mobilize aid for earthquake victims at upcoming congress

Colombian business leaders are mobilizing aid and resources to support communities devastated by a recent earthquake. The 11th Colombian Business Congress (CEC), set to take place in Cartagena from August 12-14, will dedicate a significant portion of its agenda to the "Solidarity for Colombia" initiative.

This initiative aims to collect donations and leverage corporate capabilities to assist those impacted by the disaster. The National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI) announced it will contribute 50% of the congress's registration fees to the emergency relief and reconstruction efforts. The funds will address immediate needs of affected families and support the long-term recovery of heavily damaged areas.

Companies are encouraged to donate money, food, hygiene products, essential items, and medical supplies. The Banco de Alimentos, Banco de Medicamentos, and Fundación ANDI will help channel these contributions. Several ANDI-affiliated companies have already pledged resources to address identified needs.

Bruce Mac Master, president of ANDI, called for a unified effort from businesses and citizens. He stated that parts of the congress's academic program would be adjusted to accommodate the solidarity efforts. "We call on companies and all Colombians to join forces for the communities affected by the earthquake," Mac Master said, emphasizing the goal of mobilizing resources, capabilities, and concrete solutions for both immediate relief and reconstruction.
