Colombian candidate De la Espriella tells Trump 'full identity' on security, anti-communism

Colombian far-right presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella publicly thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his endorsement, declaring a "full identity" in their security policies and a shared commitment to combating communism.

De la Espriella, representing the "Defenders of the Fatherland" movement, stated that both leaders view "narco-terrorism as the cancer that corrodes our societies" and vowed to fight it "without truce, with an iron fist and without complexes." Trump had earlier praised De la Espriella as an "intelligent, strong, and decisive" leader who would foster economic growth, job creation, trade, and restore "law and order."

De la Espriella, who secured the most votes in the first round of Colombia's presidential election, expressed gratitude for Trump's backing. He emphasized the "sister nations" bond between the United States and Colombia, united by shared values and a common destiny to defend "Western civilization." He believes this alliance, strengthened by leaders who respect each other and share "inviolable values and principles," will lead to more prosperous peoples, secure homes, and a brighter future.

The candidate also highlighted shared principles such as the defense of private property, free trade, productive development, and the well-being of the people as the "supreme north" of government action. He specifically noted their common front against communism and expressed his desire to join the "Shield of the Americas," a security initiative proposed by Trump.
