Colombian Castro wins gold in 1,000m speed skating at Central American Games

Colombian skater Collin Castro claimed the gold medal in the women's 1,000-meter speed skating race at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. Castro crossed the finish line with a winning time of 1 minute and 29.101 seconds.

The silver medal went to Angy Quintero of Venezuela, who recorded a time of 1:29.384. Castro's compatriot, Gabriela Rueda, secured the bronze medal with a time of 1:29.562, completing an impressive showing for Colombia in the event.

The race, which consisted of five laps on the speed skating track at the Paseo 30 de Mayo, is a key event in the roller skating program of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games. This year's games are hosting 6,200 athletes competing across 40 sports and 53 disciplines.

With a record-breaking 3,244 medals at stake, the Santo Domingo games also serve as a qualifying event for international competitions, with an eye toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
