Colombian Federation of Departments backs president-elect, demands protection of transition information

Colombia's National Federation of Departments (FND) has publicly backed President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, demanding robust protection for all government information during the critical transition period. The federation emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to the constitution.

Rafaela Cortés, president of the FND and governor of Meta, issued a formal statement urging competent authorities to independently and swiftly investigate allegations that have surfaced concerning the handover process. She stressed that citizens' confidence in institutions hinges on the clear and legal resolution of any concerns raised during this period.

Cortés's call follows President-elect De la Espriella's own directive to his vice president, José Manuel Restrepo, to halt all transition activities. De la Espriella cited alleged irregularities and sabotage attempts by the outgoing administration of Gustavo Petro as the reason for this drastic measure.

The FND's statement specifically highlighted the importance of safeguarding state information, including archives, documents, and information systems. The federation stressed that this data must remain intact to ensure administrative continuity and prevent disruptions to state functions.
