Colombian Footballers' Union Seeks Judicial Liquidation of Deportivo Pereira Over Unpaid Wages

The Colombian Association of Professional Footballers (Acolfutpro) has formally asked the Superintendency of Societies to initiate the judicial liquidation of the Deportivo Pereira football club. The union cited the club's failure to meet its labor obligations to the players as the primary reason for this request.

According to Acolfutpro, Deportivo Pereira currently owes its players salaries for July and the first half of August 2026. This situation is particularly concerning as the club was admitted into a business reorganization agreement in January of the same year. The union emphasized that these outstanding payments are subsequent to that agreement and, under Colombia's insolvency law (Law 1116 of 2006), should be prioritized.

Acolfutpro argues that the club's non-compliance with these wage obligations constitutes grounds for terminating the reorganization agreement. Such a termination could ultimately result in the judicial liquidation of Deportivo Pereira.

"Our colleagues at Pereira, whose livelihoods and those of their families are affected, deserve respect, compliance, and dignified working conditions," the organization stated in a release on its social media channels. Acolfutpro, which is affiliated with the Unitary Workers' Central (CUT) and the International Federation of Professional Footballers (Fifpro), is seeking the Superintendency's intervention.

It is important to note that this request does not automatically mean Deportivo Pereira has been liquidated. The Superintendency of Societies will now determine whether to proceed with terminating the reorganization agreement and potentially initiate a judicial liquidation process. On the sporting front, Deportivo Pereira is currently struggling, sitting in sixteenth place in the Colombian league with only two points from three matches, including two draws and one loss.
