Colombian police officer dies in drone bomb attack

A Colombian police officer, Sub-Intendente Argemiro Rodelo Canchila, died following an explosive drone attack on the San Roque police substation in the northeastern department of Cesar. The officer had served for at least 18 years, recognized for his "commitment and vocation."

President Abelardo de la Espriella condemned the attack, vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice. "Every attack against our Public Force men only strengthens our determination to defeat terrorism and restore tranquility to Colombians," he stated on X.

The incident occurred less than a day before the new president's inauguration. The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, also reported a drone attack on the Porce III police station in Guadalupe, attributing it to the 36th Front of the former FARC, under the command of "alias Calarcá." Rendón called the act a "provocation to the new government."

Additionally, unknown assailants destroyed a toll booth under construction on the Pan-American Highway between Popayán and Cali early Saturday. The explosion rendered the toll booth unusable and restricted traffic, with no immediate reports of casualties.
