Colombian singer Jhonny Rivera opens hotel to earthquake victims and rescuers

Following a devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, popular music singer Jhonny Rivera has opened his hotel in Pereira to aid those affected by the tragedy. Rivera and his wife, Jenny López, are providing shelter at Hotel La Rivera for displaced individuals and a base for rescue workers.

Even though Rivera's hotel sustained some damage, he made the facility available as a refuge and a center for collecting essential supplies. The couple used their social media platforms to announce the initiative and list needed items, including water, baby products, pet food, and disposable tableware. Rivera personally observed the urgent need for disposable items when visiting collection points, noting that food was arriving without a way to serve it.

Rivera expressed his deep concern after touring affected areas in Pereira, describing the devastation he witnessed. The earthquake also impacted his family directly, as two of his nephews lost their homes and businesses due to structural collapses.

The hotel is not only serving as a shelter but also as a place for rescue teams to rest and refuel. Rivera shared on Instagram that rescue workers from Bogotá had already arrived, praising them as "true heroes." He mentioned that the hotel provided them with lunch and a place to recharge before they continued their vital work. The singer also indicated that they were expecting 15 doctors who would be traveling to assist in the emergency response. Additionally, Rivera has set up a QR code for monetary donations to support relief efforts.
