Combine harvester catches fire during harvest, damaging field and injuring firefighter

A combine harvester erupted in flames during harvest work in the Nordwestmecklenburg district, resulting in significant damage and minor injuries. The incident occurred in the municipality of Klein Schwansee.

When emergency services arrived, the harvester was engulfed in fire, and the blaze had already spread to about 3.5 hectares of a nearby grain field. The estimated financial loss for the owner is around half a million Euros. Despite onlookers temporarily hindering the approximately 150 responding emergency personnel, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire.

One female firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. The criminal police have launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary suspicions pointing towards negligent arson.
