Community leader shot dead in Los Alcarrizos

José Fran Valerio, a prominent community leader and Dominicanos por el Cambio party official in Los Alcarrizos, was fatally shot Friday afternoon. He was at a bus stop he had established when two unknown assailants approached him. According to his son, José Nathanael, Valerio was seated when the individuals arrived. As Valerio attempted to stand, one of them fired multiple shots, with one projectile striking him in the back of the neck, causing a fatal wound.

The incident occurred around 4:00 PM. Nathanael, who was close to his father, stated that to his knowledge, Valerio had no ongoing disputes or prior threats that would suggest an attack. He emphasized his father's deep involvement in social and political activities. The family remains unaware of the motive behind the crime and the circumstances leading to the assault.

Authorities have not yet provided the family with official updates on the investigation's progress. Valerio's cell phone has been taken by the police for examination as part of the inquiry. His body was transported to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) for the necessary procedures.

Valerio was known in Los Alcarrizos for his community work and initiatives aimed at addressing residents' needs. He was also active politically as a leader for Dominicanos por el Cambio in the area. His family noted that he often conducted his political and community work accompanied by his son Nathanael, fostering strong connections with various organizations, political figures, and community sectors.
