Conagua maintains water release from Requena dam in Hidalgo; dismisses risks to population

Mexico's National Water Commission (Conagua) confirmed it is continuing programmed, controlled water releases from the Requena dam in Hidalgo. The dam, located in Tepeji del Río, is releasing 5 cubic meters per second for agricultural use in the region. Conagua assured that these operations pose no risk to the local population. The dam currently holds 96.8% of its storage capacity. These controlled releases are conducted under technical supervision and align with established schedules to meet the needs of the agricultural cycle while ensuring the safety of nearby communities. Conagua maintains continuous hydraulic monitoring of the state's water infrastructure. Other significant dams in Hidalgo also show high storage levels: Taxhimay is at 80.7%, Endhó is at 96.8% with a spill of 28.694 cubic meters per second, Rojo Gómez is at 76.9%, and Vicente Aguirre is at 78.2%. In the Gulf North hydrological region, La Esperanza dam is at 100% capacity, and Ing. Fernando Hiriart Balderrama dam in Zimapán is at 88.2%. Conagua reiterated its commitment to constant surveillance of the nation's dams to manage storage levels and releases, prioritizing public safety, property protection, and efficient water use for productive activities.
