Concacaf Criticizes FIFA for 'Lack of Regulatory Process' in Private Investment Plan

Concacaf has voiced strong objections to FIFA's plan to bring in private investors, citing a "profound concern over the absence of a regulatory process." The regional confederation stated it learned of the project through media reports and a press release, sharing the "disappointment of many actors in our region and the world of football" that details were developed and published before consulting governing bodies and stakeholders.

FIFA announced its proposal to establish FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) to manage its commercial operations and attract external investors, projecting $10 billion in revenue to fund football development. The FFE aims to secure $4.2 billion this year, with all net profits reinvested into football. FIFA assures its members of economic benefits through a new funding mechanism, the FIFA Fast Forward Programme. FIFA would retain exclusive control over FFE through majority representation on its board and exclusive authority over football governance, competitions, and regulations.

However, the plan has already drawn criticism from UEFA, which represents European federations. UEFA stated that such a move is "a line that the institutions governing football should never cross." Concacaf echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that FIFA, confederations, and federations have a collective responsibility to act in the best interests of the sport. "Every decision we make must be guided by good governance, robust decision-making processes, and a long-term vision," Concacaf declared.
