Conmebol Adjusts Schedule Following Colombia Earthquake

A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, has reverberated beyond immediate disaster relief, impacting the continental football calendar. The emergency prompted the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) to adjust its schedule for international matches slated to take place in Colombia.

Among the most notable changes, the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 between Independiente del Valle and Deportes Tolima, originally set for August 11, has been moved. The match will now be played on August 18, 2026, at 7:30 PM at the Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro in Ibagué. The return leg in Ecuador remains scheduled for August 25 at the same time.

The Conmebol also revised the Copa Sudamericana schedule. The first leg of the round of 16 between Santa Fe and River Plate, initially planned for August 12 in Bogotá, is now set for August 19 at 7:30 PM. The second leg will take place on August 26 at 9:30 PM in Buenos Aires. The Colombian government declared a state of "national disaster" following the quake, which was felt across several Colombian cities and neighboring countries.
