Conmebol fines O'Higgins for damaged fence in match against Millonarios

South American football governing body Conmebol has sanctioned Chilean club O'Higgins with a fine for damaging stadium infrastructure during a Copa Sudamericana match.

The disciplinary commission ruled that O'Higgins violated Article 11.2, literal q, of the Conmebol Disciplinary Code, which addresses causing damage. The specific infraction occurred during a match against Millonarios on May 26, which O'Higgins won 2-1, securing their advancement to the playoff round.

The fine amounts to $94.77, covering the exact cost to replace the damaged fence. Conmebol stated that this sum will be automatically deducted from any television rights or sponsorship income owed to O'Higgins. The club has also received an explicit warning regarding potential reincidents, with further penalties possible under Article 27 of the Disciplinary Code if similar violations occur.

O'Higgins has the option to appeal the sanction within seven days of receiving the full decision. Such an appeal would require adherence to the Disciplinary Code's formalities and a separate appeal fee of $3,000. The club was ultimately eliminated from the tournament after losing a penalty shootout to Boca Juniors in the playoffs.
