CONMEBOL president visits Venezuela to oversee U.S. $1.5 million infrastructure projects

Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), visited Venezuela to personally inspect and oversee infrastructure projects financed by the organization. The visit highlights CONMEBOL's commitment to developing football and supporting communities in the region.

During his visit, Domínguez inaugurated a new football pitch in an area between Caracas and La Guaira. This project is noted as the first to be executed with CONMEBOL's direct contribution, aimed at restoring sports and educational facilities damaged by the earthquakes on June 24. He also participated in the symbolic groundbreaking for the National High-Performance Center in Lara state, a strategic facility for Venezuelan footballers' development, funded entirely by CONMEBOL.

The Federation of Venezuelan Football (FVF) stated that Domínguez's agenda, alongside FVF president Jorge Giménez, allowed for firsthand supervision of these projects and the promotion of new infrastructure initiatives. The center in Lara will span approximately 5,800 square meters, featuring two professional pitches and accommodation for 132 people. The newly inaugurated pitch near Caracas is expected to directly benefit over 1,000 children in a community of 23,067 residents.

Domínguez emphasized CONMEBOL's swift response to the needs of the Venezuelan people following the earthquakes, stating, "This situation that the brotherly people of Venezuela experienced made the CONMEBOL Executive Council respond immediately. (...) We wanted to respond immediately and show that you and we are one team." The FVF also reported on repair and refurbishment work at a high school affected by the tremors, funded by CONMEBOL.

Minister of Education Héctor Rodríguez expressed gratitude for CONMEBOL's support. The FVF highlighted that Domínguez's visit demonstrated the transparent use and materialization of CONMEBOL's resources in Venezuela, strengthening an alliance focused on elite sports development, social impact, and education for younger generations. The recent double earthquake caused at least 6,509 deaths and an estimated $19.6 billion in damages, according to the World Bank.
