Conservative MP Larry Brock to resign next month

Conservative MP Larry Brock announced on social media that he will resign his seat on September 18, returning to the Crown attorney's office in Brantford, Ontario. Brock, the MP for Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations, was first elected in 2021. He previously served as the Conservative party's justice critic but was removed from the position by Leader Pierre Poilievre in June.

Poilievre thanked Brock for his work, citing his efforts to "end Liberal bail, to lock up criminals, to restore safe streets and to support victims." Brock stated he is returning to the "front lines of justice" and that being back in the courtroom will allow him to continue being tough on crime.

Brock's resignation triggers a byelection in his southwestern Ontario riding. This comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney has called three byelections for August 31 in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. The Liberal government needs to win at least one of these three races to maintain its majority in the House of Commons.

Brock is the seventh MP to leave Poilievre's caucus since the 2025 election. Four of those MPs have crossed the floor to join the Liberals.
