Contrasting weather grips Lithuania: Sunshine in one area, hail in another

Lithuania is currently experiencing a dramatic split in its weather, with sunshine gracing some regions while others are battered by intense hailstorms. This meteorological contrast highlights the unpredictable nature of the current weather patterns across the country.

Social media buzzed with images from Mažeikiai district, where a woman shared a striking photo of heavy hail falling at 2:28 PM on August 11. While some residents enjoy clear skies, other parts of Lithuania are facing short but severe downpours and powerful gusts of wind.

According to Meteo.lt, dangerous weather warnings are active in several regions. Klaipėda County is on alert for west-northwest winds reaching 15-18 m/s until 10 PM. Meanwhile, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Kaunas, Vilnius, and Utena counties are bracing for potential thunderstorms between 1 PM and 8 PM, accompanied by strong west-northwest winds of 15-18 m/s until 7 PM.

Authorities are advising residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and secure outdoor items due to strong winds. Drivers are cautioned against parking under trees. The forecast suggests a calming trend for the coming days, with scattered showers expected on Wednesday night and Thursday. Temperatures will range from 18-23 degrees Celsius during the day on Wednesday, cooling slightly at night before warming up to 19-24 degrees on Thursday. By Friday, conditions are expected to improve further, with no rain predicted, light winds, and daytime temperatures reaching 21-26 degrees Celsius.
