Copa Centroamericana: Saprissa takes three points on the road against UMECIT FC

Deportivo Saprissa secured a vital 2-1 away victory against UMECIT FC in their opening match of the 2026 Copa Centroamericana. The Costa Rican club earned three points in Group C, despite facing adversity during the game.

Saprissa established a commanding lead with goals at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. Argentine midfielder Mariano Torres opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, followed by a goal from Orlando Sinclair just four minutes into the second half, extending the visitors' advantage.

The match shifted in the 62nd minute when Saprissa's Luis Paradela received a red card, forcing his team to play with ten men for the remainder of the contest. UMECIT FC capitalized on the numerical advantage, pulling a goal back in the 76th minute through Alberto Saldaña.

Despite UMECIT FC's late push, Saprissa held on to secure the win. The Panamanian team will look to rebound in their next Group C fixture against Honduras's Olimpia on August 5th in Panama.
