This phase of the competition sees 16 teams vying for advancement, though no Chilean clubs are left after O'Higgins' elimination in the play-offs against Boca Juniors. The opening matches are set to feature several well-known South American football powerhouses.

On Tuesday, August 11, Boca Juniors of Argentina will host Recoleta FC from Paraguay at 6:00 p.m. at the Estadio La Bombonera. Later that evening, at 8:30 p.m., Bolívar of Bolivia will face Sao Paulo of Brazil at the Estadio "Hernando Siles."

The action continues on Wednesday, August 12. Tigre of Argentina plays Montevideo City Torque of Uruguay at 6:00 p.m. at the Estadio "José Dellagiovanna."
