Corredor Sur highway to see partial closures for beam transport

Panama's Corredor Sur highway will experience partial closures beginning Friday, June 12, as the National Highway Company (ENA) moves large beams for the Costa del Este-Hipódromo interchange expansion project. The closures will specifically affect the area around the Atlapa toll plaza. These maneuvers are necessary to lift, transport, and position the beams that will form part of a new viaduct connecting to Costa del Este. Arsenio Tejada, ENA Sur's Director of Planning, explained that after the handover of the Hipódromo interchange, the movement of these structural components will commence. The beams will travel from Tocumen towards Paitilla, making a U-turn at the Atlapa toll booth before proceeding to Costa del Este for installation. During these operations, total momentary closures of approximately 10 minutes will be implemented, particularly during the return of equipment. These activities are scheduled to take place nightly between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. Partial closures will also be maintained in Costa del Este while the beams are being lifted and placed. Once the nighttime work concludes, equipment will be removed, and traffic flow will be restored before 4 a.m. The construction work is slated to continue until June 18, and authorities advise drivers to exercise caution and seek alternative routes during the specified hours.
