IDAAN Enables New Wells to Reinforce Water Supply in Atalaya de Veraguas

The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewerage (IDAAN) is actively working to enhance the potable water supply in the Atalaya district of Veraguas province, Panama, with a focus on the La Florecita sector. The initiative involves enabling new wells to bolster the existing water system.

As part of the ongoing efforts, the company Naturgy will commence civil works to install eight electrical posts. These posts will provide the necessary power for a new well. Following the electrical installation, functionality tests and connections will be performed to integrate the well into the water supply system, aiming to deliver more efficient service to residents.

Aldo Vásquez, the regional director of IDAAN in Veraguas, explained that these actions are part of a comprehensive plan to improve water provision in the district. He stated that the plan includes enabling additional wells in Punta Mono and Atalaya, which will increase the volume of water in the system and mitigate current deficiencies.

Vásquez also mentioned that the construction of a water treatment plant remains an alternative under evaluation for medium and long-term projects. While no exact timeline has been set for the treatment plant, he indicated that additional wells will be drilled as work progresses.

These developments were discussed during a meeting between IDAAN authorities, district residents, and members of the Atalaya Water Committee.
