Could Ramos and Cros stay at Toulouse? ‘You never know, a marriage can fall through at the last moment’

Ugo Mola has accepted that Thomas Ramos and François Cros may leave Toulouse, but he is not ruling out one last twist. Asked about the two internationals’ planned departures at the end of the season, the manager compared the situation to a wedding whose date is known years in advance but which can still collapse at the last moment.

When players approach 31, 32 or 33 at Toulouse, we obviously ask ourselves about the final deal. The club’s interest, which is also mine, is to have a team capable of performing over time. We are preparing for that by ensuring, at a minimum, a handover rather than a transition.

Ramos is expected to join Racing 92, while Cros is set to move to Lyon. Mola defended Toulouse’s decision to think beyond its established players as they approach their early thirties. The club, he said, needs a team that can remain competitive over time, with succession and continuity prepared in advance.

He also acknowledged that players reaching the end of their contracts sometimes have to move elsewhere. Ramos and Cros, Mola noted, were once the young prospects represented today by Léo Banos and Matias Remue. He said he hoped the younger players would follow similarly successful paths.

Sometimes, you have to accept that players at the end of their contracts will leave for elsewhere. It is a risk, but one the club fully accepts.

The manager expects both internationals to remain fully committed during their final Toulouse season. Their reputations will not guarantee them special treatment or automatic starting places. “Performance will remain the judge for everyone,” he said, describing competition within the squad as central to Toulouse’s system.

Do not worry about François and Thomas’s commitment, or about the relationship we will have with them. However, since competition is at the heart of our system, performance will remain the judge for everyone.

Mola’s record with Toulouse includes six Top 14 titles, in 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, and two Champions Cup victories, in 2021 and 2024.
