Toulouse-Lille: Impassable Ozer, Express Ueda and a Nightmare for TFC

Berke Ozer turned Lille’s visit to Toulouse into a personal showcase. The Turkish goalkeeper made 10 saves, including a remarkable stop just in front of his line in the first half, and repeatedly denied a Toulouse attack that could not find a way through.

His performance secured a crucial 1-0 victory for Lille and temporarily sent the club to the top of Ligue 1. The decisive moment came from Ayase Ueda, who marked his first appearance for Lille with a goal. The Japan international, 28, had only just arrived from Feyenoord but needed about 15 minutes to score a well-timed header and give Davide Ancelotti’s team the lead.

Toulouse had started brightly. Cristian Casseres struck the crossbar early and remained one of the driving forces behind an excellent first half for the hosts. The Venezuela international repeatedly pushed forward after Lille opened the scoring, while Toulouse’s midfielders covered the pitch with intensity, won the ball and created chances.

The frustration was clear in the final figures. Toulouse attempted 25 shots but never managed to unlock Lille’s defense, leaving the club 16th in the league and still searching for its first win of the season. Jens Berthel Askou and his staff now have little time to revive the team.

Mathys Niflore endured a particularly difficult introduction. The 19-year-old came on in the 71st minute after Guillaume Restes was injured, then conceded Ueda’s goal only two minutes later. At the other end, Lille’s Giroud and Mbappé were largely invisible, although Mbappé did put one effort on target.
