Coupang Logistics Center Fire Rages for Third Day; Rain Fails to Contain Spreading Flames

Firefighters continue to battle a large blaze at a Coupang logistics center in Incheon, South Korea, now in its third day. The fire, which began on the 6th floor of the 299,000 square meter facility on June 18, has spread to engulf all four sides of the building. Despite the onset of rain on June 20, which initially raised hopes for extinguishing the flames, the fire's scope has widened. Officials report that water has not reached the fire's origin point, exacerbating the situation. The logistics center, built in 2023, is connected to a ramp building and contains a large volume of household goods, contributing to intense heat and thick smoke. These conditions are hindering rescue and firefighting operations inside the structure. The fire initially spread from the southeast, moving through the interior and then extending to the west and north sides. Fire authorities are facing significant challenges in containing the inferno and preventing further damage.
