Couple arrested for robbing mansion of Kenyans killed in air crash

A couple has been arrested in Coral Gables, Florida, for allegedly robbing a mansion belonging to two individuals who died in a helicopter crash in Kenya on August 19. The suspects, identified as Geybert Alexander García, 40, and Melany Pavon Perdomo, 24, are accused of stealing items valued at over $500,000 from the home between August 22 and 23.

The victims, Michele Sensi Contugi and Stephany Hollihan, were a married couple who died when their helicopter crashed into a mountain in Kenya. Contugi was the director of the Ecuador Intelligence Center, and Hollihan was his wife. The mansion they owned in Miami was targeted after their deaths.

Among the stolen items were a 2023 Range Rover, a 2020 Porsche Taycan, artwork, jewelry, business documents, and electronics. The theft was reported by an employee of the victims. A business associate of the deceased was able to track down one of the vehicles and a computer using internet applications, which aided the police investigation.

García and Perdomo were taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on felony charges. The investigation is ongoing.
