Couple reports being held captive for a week in Estación Central

A couple has reported being held captive for approximately one week inside a residence on Obispo Umaña street in Santiago's Estación Central commune. The ordeal came to light when a 47-year-old man alerted Carabineros after escaping the property where he was being held against his will.

The victim told police that six armed individuals of Venezuelan nationality, claiming to be part of a criminal organization, abducted him. He recounted fleeing by jumping over the home's perimeter wall into a neighbor's yard, from where he called for police assistance. The man also stated that his wife, a 49-year-old woman, remained captive inside the house.

Given the seriousness of the report, Carabineros deployed the GOPE tactical unit to search the property. Officers located the woman, who explained she had also escaped by taking advantage of the alleged kidnappers leaving to search for her husband. The police searched the premises thoroughly but did not find the suspects. An investigation is underway to identify those involved and determine if others were complicit. The man sustained visible injuries to his neck and was taken to a medical center for examination.
