Court places another accused on a three-day remand

Dhaka's Detective Branch (DB) of the Metropolitan Police has apprehended another suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Jubo Dal activist and the injuring of two others in the Kafrul area. The arrestee, identified as Ziarul Haque Mollah, also known as Zia, hails from Magura.

An official from the DB's Mirpur Division confirmed the arrest, stating that four gunmen were involved in the attack. "A total of four shooters -- two from Jhenaidah and two from Magura -- took part in the incident. Among them, Ziarul Haque has been arrested. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday in front of Opex Garments in Mirpur-13, Kafrul Police Station. Police report that four to five unidentified assailants opened fire indiscriminately. Jubo Dal activist Yusuf Ali and two other individuals were wounded. Yusuf Ali was pronounced dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday from a bullet wound to the chest.

Immediately following the incident, local residents apprehended one of the alleged attackers, Md Chanchal Mollah. He was beaten by the crowd before being handed over to the police. On Saturday, police presented Chanchal before a Dhaka court, requesting a 10-day remand for interrogation. The court granted a three-day remand in an arms case. Earlier, a sub-inspector from Kafrul Police Station filed a case under the Arms Act against Chanchal, Zihad Mollah, Ziarul Mollah, and Hasan.
