Court Rejects Roy Suryo's Pre-Trial Motion on Travel Ban

A pre-trial motion by KMRT Roy Suryo challenging a travel ban imposed by the Metro Jaya Regional Police has been rejected by a single judge at the South Jakarta District Court. Presiding judge I Ketut Darpawan stated that the motion was invalid because the primary case, which involves allegations of a fake diploma belonging to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, has already been submitted to the court. "Considering that although the object is not exactly the same, this pre-trial motion has similarities with Pre-trial Motion Number: 108/Pid.Pra/2026/PN Jakarta Selatan which was decided on July 20, 2026, in terms of the timing of its submission, namely submitted after the main case was transferred to the East Jakarta District Court on June 23, 2026," the judge explained. The judge further noted that once the main case is handed over to the court and registered, the authority shifts, and the applicant's status changes to that of a defendant. According to the judge, Roy Suryo's repeated pre-trial motions after the main case entered the judicial process were seen as an abuse of legal procedures. The court found the current motion, which questioned the forced measure of naming him a suspect and the travel ban, to be irrelevant given his new status as a defendant.
