Court remands Lagos teacher over alleged defilement of 15-year-old student

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a teacher identified only as Michael at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. He faces allegations of defiling a 15-year-old student in the Ketu area of Lagos State.

The case is still ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as he is fit to face justice.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the remand, addressing earlier reports that suggested some police officers attempted to obstruct the prosecution. The survivor's mother had accused officers of pressuring her family to accept a N200,000 settlement and drop the case. The police command spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, had previously dismissed these claims as unsubstantiated allegations.

Adebisi stated that the case was under investigation when the allegations surfaced and assured that the suspect would face prosecution. The case was initially reported at the Ketu Police Station on July 13, with the suspect arrested the same day. However, preparations for his arraignment were halted when Michael reportedly collapsed on July 15.
