Court to decide Thursday on striking charges against former NAFCO boss

The Accra High Court is set to determine on Thursday, July 23, 2026, whether to dismiss 16 charges against Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).

Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, are accused of multiple offenses including defrauding by false pretense, stealing, willfully causing financial loss to the Republic, using public office for profit, dishonest receiving, money laundering, and intentional misapplication of public funds. The prosecution alleges that between February 2017 and February 2025, Aludiba caused NAFCO to pay approximately GH¢50,879,210 to business enterprises for supposed foodstuffs. Both Aludiba and Wuni have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Aludiba's defense lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is arguing for the charges to be struck out, contending that the charge sheet is "fatally defective" and violates his client's right to a fair trial. Dame asserts that the charge sheet lacks the specific details necessary for Aludiba to understand and defend himself against the allegations. He further argues that the prosecution has improperly combined distinct offenses into single counts and failed to provide particulars for charges like stealing, citing a Supreme Court decision. The defense is not seeking evidence at this stage but a dismissal based on the inadequacy of the charge sheet itself.
