Coventry sign Yann Gboho after the transfer window closes

Coventry City completed the signing of Yann Gboho three days after the English Premier League transfer window closed. The club had agreed terms with Toulouse before the 11 p.m. deadline on Sept. 1, but FIFA needed to review the paperwork and confirm that everything was in order.

Because the agreement had been reached before the window closed, FIFA was able to approve the transfer afterward. Gboho also needed approval for his British visa. He has signed a long-term contract and was registered in time for Coventry’s match against Manchester City the following day.

The 25-year-old Frenchman spent the previous two and a half years with Toulouse, scoring 19 goals and supplying 12 assists. He can play on either wing or in attack, offering Coventry manager Frank Lampard another option in an area where the team has struggled.

Coventry lost its first two matches after reaching the Premier League, against Arsenal and Hull City. Gboho is known for his pace, ball control and ability to create attacking danger, and he could make his debut against Manchester City.
