"Coyote vs. Acme": The long-awaited film finally hits theaters

After a 77-year wait, the famously beleaguered Warner Bros. coyote is finally taking center stage in "Coyote vs. Acme." This film marks a significant moment for the character, who previously had only brief appearances in "Space Jam." The movie uniquely blends live-action with 2D animation, a creative choice that reflects the character's enduring appeal.

The film's premise originated from a 1990 satirical article in "The New Yorker" by humorist Ian Frazier. The article imagined a lawsuit filed by the coyote against Acme Corporation for negligence and corporate responsibility, citing defective products that caused him physical injury and psychological damage. This concept forms the core of the movie's narrative.

Directed by Dave Green, known for his work on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" sequels, the film was slated for release but faced numerous setbacks. Warner Bros. initially decided to shelve the project to mitigate fiscal issues. However, public and industry outcry led the studio to seek distribution solutions. Despite offers from streaming platforms, Ketchup Entertainment ultimately acquired the rights in the summer of 2025 for $50 million, with critics anticipating a significant return on investment for the company that "rescued" the film.
