CPBL: Brothers Catcher Achieves Rare Feat, Earning Home MVP Without a Hit in 24 Years

Chung Hsin-yi Brothers catcher Lin Wu-chin-wei etched his name in the team's history books yesterday by earning the home game MVP award without registering a single hit. His performance included drawing three walks, contributing one run batted in, and executing two vital outfield assists to second base. This remarkable achievement makes him only the second position player in the Brothers' franchise history to receive the home MVP honor under such circumstances.

The last time a Brothers position player accomplished this rare feat was 24 years ago, when Chen Chih-yuan received the award on April 7, 2002, at Xinzhuang Stadium. Lin Wu-chin-wei's performance yesterday, particularly his crucial play in the 11th inning, was instrumental in the Brothers' victory. He capitalized on a Fubon batter's failed bunt attempt, quickly throwing to second base to complete a double play, effectively stifling the opponent's scoring threat.

Lin expressed his readiness for such high-pressure situations, especially in extra innings where bunting is a common strategy. He credited pitcher Lu Yen-ching for setting up the crucial pitch, stating, "Fortunately, Lu Yen-ching is a very accurate pitcher. He used breaking balls earlier, and the last pitch was a fastball. Thank you to him for being so skilled and giving me a chance to throw."

Lin seized the starting opportunity presented by the injury to regular catcher Kao Yu-chieh, who sprained his left index finger on the 26th. "It just so happened that Xiao Gao got injured, giving me a chance to play and perform," Lin said after receiving his first career home MVP award.
