Crans-Montana Bar Owner Detained for Alleged Assault on Wife

Jacques Moretti, co-owner of the bar "Le Constellation" in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana, has been placed in provisional detention after allegedly assaulting his wife, Jessica Moretti. The incident reportedly occurred at their home in Valais during the night of August 11-12, leading to Jessica Moretti's hospitalization.

Details regarding the severity and nature of Jessica Moretti's injuries remain undisclosed. Swiss media reported the arrest, but official confirmation from the public prosecutor's office and the couple's lawyers was pending. The precise circumstances and potential criminal charges related to the alleged violence have not yet been communicated.

According to Swiss television, Jacques Moretti has no prior record of such offenses. The lawyers for the Moretti couple issued a statement emphasizing that these "incidents, investigated within a separate procedure, relate exclusively to their private lives." They stressed that the events should not be confused with the "Constellation tragedy" but acknowledged they occurred within a context of "intense hardship" the couple has faced since January 1.

The Morettis are also under criminal investigation in connection with the devastating New Year's Eve fire at their bar, Le Constellation. The blaze claimed 41 lives and injured 115 people, primarily young adults and foreign nationals. They are among 16 individuals being investigated for charges including negligent arson, negligent homicide, and negligent serious bodily harm.
