Crazy Cars championship ignites excitement in Caaguazú

Caaguazú transformed into a hub of speed, creativity, and family fun as it hosted the second round of the National Crazy Cars Championship 2026. This event, now in its second national season, attracted competitors from across Paraguay to a specially prepared circuit in the San Roque neighborhood.

The championship showcases unique, handcrafted vehicles built by the participants themselves. Fernando Portillo, president of Autos Locos Paraguay, explained that the initiative began in 2021 as a post-pandemic effort among friends to revitalize Caaguazú's local economy. The inaugural event had a charitable component, with food donations for an elderly home serving as entry tickets.

Over the years, the event has evolved into a national championship. The first round of the 2026 season took place in Ciudad del Este, with Caaguazú, considered the birthplace of Crazy Cars in Paraguay, hosting the second. Approximately 35 vehicles were registered for this round, with typical participation ranging from 30 to 50 competitors per event.

Participants traveled from various cities, including Asunción, San Lorenzo, and Ciudad del Este, demonstrating the event's growing national reach. The competition is open to anyone who can build a 'crazy car' according to the organization's technical regulations. Safety measures have been enhanced, including protective barriers, two ambulances, and coordination with the local hospital, ensuring a secure environment for participants and spectators alike.
